It's my MARKET, so I'm gonna share.......So those free-minded thinkers in North Carolina voted to ban gay people from getting married. Given how they were dragged kicking and screaming away from slavery, the Tarheels really present themselves as a tolerant people. Think of it like this: I don’t like chocolate ice cream. Associates of mine don’t like it either. We don’t like the look, taste or smell of it and we can’t even stand to be in the same room with it. Oh, and we’re in charge, so we have now decided that even if you like chocolate ice cream and want to enjoy it away from us, you can’t. Even if you were to have some in your house where we can’t see it or smell it, too bad. You can’t have any. Does that make sense? Of course not, because this is a free country where we are all free to do as we please if it causes no harm to others. You eating ice cream in your home causes no harm. Two guys or girls getting married and living their lives together does no harm either. If you don’t like gays, don’t be gay. If you don’t like gay marriage, don’t marry a gay. But let folks live their own lives with their beliefs as you would like to live your own life with your beliefs…Time Magazine published an issue that featured a woman breast feeding her 3-year old son on the cover. This raised all sorts of debates ranging from should women be allowed to breast feed in public to how old is too old to breast feed. I thought the more important issue was what will this woman do for nipples once this kid starts teething on them? I mean, babies and toddlers have very few teeth, so breast feed away. But after two-years old? Those things start coming in and they are sharp. If some woman wants her nipples to be chew toys for her kid, that’s her business…..So this guy in Georgia gets involved in some three-way sex, without his wife, and dies during it. His family’s response? They sued the guy’s cardiologist for not warning him that physical activity could be dangerous. And they won. Wouldn’t that be like your family suing the state after you have a heart attack from the excitement of winning the lottery? And by the way, If I get an invite into a three-way, I don’t care if a cardiologist or anyone else tells me not to have physical activity, I’m living the dream and going for it……John Travolta was sued by a number of men all claiming that the actor tried to force them into gay sex during massages they were hired to give him. These accusations give a whole new meaning to the lyrics “Grease is the word.” It is interesting to note though that a number of these suits have already been dropped due to lack of evidence or poor credibility of the accuser, yet they made front-page news when they came out. Now I don’t know or care if John Travolta is gay. His private life is his business. But when people crawl out of wherever to make accusations and are given front-page treatment by the press and are then shown to be liars only in it for the money or the publicity, how is that fair? There may be two sides to every story, but the media only cares about the one side that sells papers and gets ratings. A little independent investigation or discretion now and then wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world……I have decided that the most annoying sound in the world is hearing Kim Kardashian complain about anything……Disco legends Donna Summer and Robin Gibbs died recently. While neither did anything of note recently in music, their legacy is secure for the impact they did have. However it was the death of two other musicians who passed that caused me to pause for a moment. Donald “Duck” Dunn was a bassist who I first learned of via his playing with The Blues Brothers. In addition to that work, Dunn was a member of legendary group Booker T. and the M.G.’s as well as an in-demand session musician who played with folks such as Jerry Lee Lewis, Freddie King, Muddy Waters, Tom Petty, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan and many others. If you are a fan of classic rock and blues and don’t know Donald Dunn, chances are you do and you just didn’t know it. Adam “MCA” Yauch also died recently. Yauch was a founding member of the Beastie Boys and was also responsible for directing many of their videos. In addition to being a ground-breaking artist who helped define rap and hip-hop, he was deeply involved in the Tibetan independence movement and organized several benefit concerts for the cause including the Tibetan Freedom Concert. The hours of musical pleasure Dunn and Yauch gave to me and millions of others can never be calculated. Deepest sympathies to their family and friends. The world was better off having them in it……Stock in Facebook was sold for the first time this past month. It is now selling for lower than its initial offering. This now brings the total to two for things released by Facebook that the public doesn’t want. First the Timeline redesign and now the stock. When the homes in Farmville start going under, that may be the last straw…For a change of pace, I wanted to share the sweetest story I saw in the news this past month. Brendan Haas is a 9-year old boy from Massachusetts. He decided he wanted to do something nice for a member of the military, so he created the “Soldier for a Soldier” program and figured out a way to trade up from a toy soldier he had to a trip to Disney for a real soldier. You can read about it here. With his trading done and the trip to Disney now in hand, Brendan drew the name of the winner on Memorial Day to let them know. The winner was the daughter of Army Lt. Timothy Steele, who died serving his country in Afghanistan last August. What’s even nicer is after hearing about Brendan’s work, Disney donated a trip to him and his family to honor their work. Brendan turned that trip down however and instead will be donating that as well to another military family. Well done Brendan……As Memorial Day just passed, I want to again make mention of the only charity I push through this column. The Wounded Warrior Project quite simply helps our injured and wounded military warriors and their families. I make a small donation to them every year and I urge you to consider doing the same. Visit their site here……OK, I’ve shared. Agree? Disagree? Share the joy with your friends. Share the outrage with your family. Have at it. See you next month.….
