POW! BLAMMO! SMASH! With the sun shining and The Avengers attacking theaters this weekend, the seal has been broken on the summer movie season. While there will be films of every genre appealing to all audiences, the summer of 2012 looks to be chock-full of goodies for fans of superheroes and comic books. Batman, Spiderman, Men in Black and The Avengers are just a few of the geek-tastic crowd we will oooh and ahhh at over our popcorn. To celebrate this hero invasion, I wanted to review the top ten most powerful superheroes you'll find in comic books, on TV or on the big screen.
10 – Aquaman - Earth is 2/3 covered in water and he controls anything living there. Anyone who can order jellyfish into your bathing suit on a whim has power not to be messed with.
9 - The Thing - Made of solid rock due to a cosmic accident, he can lift a ton or more and is nearly indestructible. He also pals around with three other fantastic heroes.
8 - Iron Man - Regular guy invents a suit of armor with state-of-the-art weaponry. Bonus points cause the suit's power source also keeps him alive.
7 - The Hulk - Nerd scientist turns big, green and mean when he gets angry. Favorite hobbies include smashing stuff and not fully ripping out of his purple pants.
6 – Wolverine - A mutant ability to self-heal from any wound plus a skeleton made of unbreakable steel. Did I mention he also has razor sharp retractable claws?
5 – Thor - A god from the land of Asgard, he wields a hammer, named Mjolnir, that opens dimensional portals, controls the weather and returns when thrown. Also, no one unworthy can lift it. If that’s not enough, re-read the first sentence….he’s a freakin’ god.
4 - Wonder Woman - An Amazonian princess who can deflect bullets with her bracelets and carries a lasso that forces people to tell the truth. Her invisible plane is pretty cool too.
3 - Green Lantern-A test pilot given a power ring from a dying alien, he can conjure up anything his mind imagines. Not only fights evil on Earth, but is part of an intergalactic police force, so he has solid back-up if needed.
2 - Superman-Name a super power and chances are he has it. An alien by birth, he has adopted this planet as his home and is such a good guy he is often referred to as "the big blue boy scout."
1 - Batman-No special powers, human through and through and only gets by on amazing athleticism, great toys and a cool car. So why is he number 1? Simple. He is the hero all the other heroes are afraid of.
Agree? Disagree? Who would be on your list?
